After five years of construction, the new £90m Marcus National Blood Services Centre is now complete! The state-of-the-art Centre, based in Ramla, is the world’s first blood bank to be designed specifically with the goal of protecting Israel’s blood supply in the face of rapid population growth, the ongoing threat of terrorism and the increasingly complex risks of cyber-attack.
Magen David Adom UK was privileged to fund the Centre, which opened in May 2022, through a three-way partnership with American Friends of MDA and the Government of Israel. We are grateful to all our supporters who have played a significant role in enabling this incredible project to come to fruition.
Now we’re offering you the opportunity to help us with the finishing touches, by sponsoring a mezuzah to be affixed to one of the door frames within the Centre.
Several mezuzot have been commissioned and designed especially for this project. The Apeloig Collection designed a mezuzah that utilised the blood type letters A, O and B – the same letters that adorn the rear facade of the new Centre. Following a competition for students from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, a further three mezuzot have been selected for limited use across the complex.
The cost is £1,800 per mezuzah and donors will not only be recognised on a dedicated commemorative wall within the building, they will also receive a limited-edition replica mezuzah for themselves.
Opportunities like these, to support one of Israel’s landmark constructions, do not present themselves often.
