Netta Epstein z”l from Kibbutz Kfar Aza loved life and making home-brew beers. On October 7th 2023, Netta, alongside 78 neighbours, was murdered in the terror attack on his home. In his last moments, he managed to save his beloved fiancée, Irene Shavit, leaving a void in her heart and those who loved him.
Those very people decided that Netta’s hopes and dreams as a community should live on, and IBA (Israeli Bitter Ale), was born: The bitter triple hops of traditional APA Netta had planned to make, meets the sweetest of all-Israeli ingredients, summer flowers, honey and date syrup.
After the beer matured in an M&H Whisky wooden barrel, the same cask was filled with a 4.5-year-old whisky, to let more people enjoy Netta’s story.
This now 5-year-old whisky is rich with fruity flavours next to a honey scent and a medium-long finish.
On 8 October 2024, participants on the Magen David Adom UK’s Memorial Mission visited Kibbutz Kfar Aza – one of the most heavily hit kibbutzim. Netta’s Story, the special whisky created to honour Netta Epstein z”l was presented to his beloved mother, Ayellet Epstein, by Daniel Burger, Chief Executive of MDA UK. This took place whilst standing outside his battered home where he was killed. Ayellet, spoke with us and shared stories of her special son and heroic acts of saving his beloved fiancée.
The collaboration between M&H Distillery and Magen David Adom UK is a special one, and will forever be cherished.
