UK Donors Show Dedication to MDA
A number of delegations from the UK have recently returned from Israel having taken part in dedications to Magen David Adom over Pesach.
Magen David Adom UK dedicated a wealth of live-saving vehicles and equipment to the value of £175,000 at MDA stations in Israel, with 4 ceremonies taking place in the space of 2 days.
At a very touching ceremony a first response motorbike was dedicated by the Yantin family in memory of their wife, mother and sister Elaine Jacob. The money was raised after 17 members of the family had run (or walked) the Tel Aviv Marathon to raise funds. The dedication was attended by 80 members of their family and friends from the UK and ex-pat community in Netanya.
A second bike was also donated by Michael & Hadassa Conn in honour of Ronni Davis’s 90th birthday and has been put to use straight away, directly helping to save more lives in Israel.
On behalf of the Hendon MDA committee, Norma Neville & Bernard Vallier-Grossman unveiled the latest type of vehicle associated with MDA, the TOMCAR. Magen David Adom UK Life President Sir Ian Gainsford spoke at the presentation about the importance of the TOMCAR, which will be used to navigate tough terrain, critical for much of Israel’s landscape, whilst Bernard’s grandchildren, themselves MDA volunteers in Israel, were present to witness the unveiling.
The final dedication was the Carter family’s new mobile command vehicle, presented at Magen David Adom’s Tel Ha’Shomer station at which Sir Ian & Lady Carmel Gainsford and Lord & Lady David Gold were present. Sir Ian spoke at the ceremony, expressing the gratitude of MDA for the Carters’ continuing efforts for the welfare of the people of Israel.
Magen David Adom UK Chief Executive Eli Benson said: “Magen David Adom is no ordinary ambulance service and one of the reasons for this are the contributions our donors in the UK make. The vehicles they provided are already in use, enabling Magen David Adom to save more lives.”
