Rapid Response to Yom Hashoah Emergency
Whist Yom Hashoah remembrance ceremonies were taking place around the country , the MDA Jerusalem Regional Dispatching Centre received several distress calls regarding the collapse of heavy installations and lighting devices at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem during rehearsals for the official opening event of the Independence Day celebrations.
Numerous teams of MDA ambulances, MICUs and first responders were dispatched to the scene, with the first team arriving within 3 minutes.
Dozens of soldiers and workers had been rehearsing for the ceremony when the construction began to suddenly swing due to strong winds.
Although most participants were able to escape before the crash, MDA crews treated seven wounded, including 1 that passed away on the scene and 5 wounded in moderate and minor conditions who were rushed to receive further treatment at the Hadassah Ein Carem and Shaare Zedek Medical Centers. One casualty suffering minor injuries received medical attention at the scene.
