Manchester Dinner completes £600k project
Magen David Adom UK’s annual Manchester Dinner held last week (Tuesday 19th June) raised the final funds to complete the local community’s 3 year project in Israel. Since Rosh Hashanah 2009 the Manchester based supporters of Magen David Adom UK, inspired by Manchester MDA Chairman Jeremy Hart, have been raising money to reconstruct and refurbish the MDA station in Hadera, Israel. Over half a million pounds has been raised since the campaign began and the £75,000 donated on Tuesday night means that the organisation has hit its target of £600,000.
Speaking after the event in Hale Barns, Mr Hart said, “The Manchester community has been focussed for three years on helping the people of Hadera and saving more lives. The incredible generosity of our supporters here in Manchester has brought that goal one step closer.”
The 120 guests were left in awe as Guest Speaker Amos Levitov told stories of his time as a Prisoner of War in Egypt in 1973, and were given an understanding as to how the ex-POW helps Magen David Adom workers and volunteers in Israel deal with high-pressure scenarios.
Mr Hart commented, “When you hear stories like Amos’ you realise that the situations in which Magen David Adom teams work in israel are incomparable to those of ambulance teams almost anywhere else in the world.”
