Christian Friends to complete Kiryat Shmona redevelopment
The Christian Friends of Magen David Adom have agreed to raise £375,000 to complete the building of the new MDA station in Kiryat Shmona. The sum represents half of the total cost of the project.
Kiryat Shmona is Israel’s northern most city. With a population of 22,000 people it sits just 5km south and 2km east of the Lebanese border. Since 1961, 6,100 missiles have been fired from Lebanon towards the city, with the station itself a target on more than one occasion. The existing station was built in the 1970s and now requires major modifications which will enable it to function more efficiently. The redevelopment includes reinforcement at ground-floor level which will also make the station safer and more secure for MDA’s team of paramedics and 200+ volunteers.
Richard Simon, Regional Director of MDA UK, commented, “The Christian Friends have already dedicated ambulances and medical equipment to MDA in Israel. The completion of the Kiryat Shmona station represents a significant commitment to the people of Israel and their ongoing health and safety.”
