BLAIR TELLS MDA: SHALIT CENTRAL TO ALL TALKS
Magen David Adom UK Chair, Stuart Glyn, has just returned from a 3 day-visit to Jerusalem during which he held a private meeting with Rt Hon Tony Blair, the Quartet Representative to the Middle East. Stuart met Mr. Blair to discuss the ongoing situation regarding Gilad Shalit and to present Mr. Blair with the MDA – Visit Shalit petition. The petition was Magen David Adom’s way of keeping Gilad Shalit’s plight on the agenda and called for Gilad Shalit to be afforded basic human rights as enshrined in the Geneva Convention. During their meeting Mr. Blair reaffirmed his commitment to this cause and said he would do everything that he can to achieve for Gilad that most basic of human rights, a visit from the International Red Cross.
Approaching 200,000 people signed the petition, which was launched in September 2010. This initiative was one of many launched worldwide by supporters of Magen David Adom in Israel.
In a short statement, Blair said that, “…in whatever we’re doing we should never and do never leave his name off the agenda.”
The Magen David Adom UK petition has now closed. However there are many other camapaigns you can support including the Board of Deputies “Faces for Gilad” initiative.
