Blood
Every year Magen David Adom collects and supplies 300,000 units of blood for the people of Israel. Mobile units visit schools, factories, community centre and army bases, providing more than 80% of Israel’s blood requirements. This service is highly sophisticated and considered to be one of the most advanced blood services in the world – collecting, checking and distributing blood to wherever it is needed.
Israel is considered one of the few countries that store unique blood groups collected from Israelis – both Arabs and Jews.
The Magen David Adom Blood Centre at Tel Hashomer also conducts world-leading research into blood disorders and has initiated a national cord blood bank. This assists children and adults suffering from inherited or cancerous disorders of the blood and immune systems and looks into the transplantation of stem cells as a treatment option.
